What do family portraits look like when kids are no longer tiny?  When they’re… gasp… TEENS? In some ways, not a whole lot changes.  The same goals apply to family portrait sessions with teens as do family sessions with younger children:  we want to capture this stage, and who you all are, both as individuals and as a family unit.  Teen years can be a challenge, but there is still magic there, and it’s worth documenting.  And that’s in “normal” times (whatever that means — I’m more and more convinced there is no such thing, but I digress).  When teens have been stuck at home for a year + during a worldwide pandemic, tensions may be even higher between parents and teens.

It was SUCH a delight to get to photograph these folks.  B, their teenage son, was absolutely adorable and showed no hesitation when it came to snuggling in with mom and dad — as a mom of three (my oldest is 10, so we’re starting to hit the “Mom, leave me ALONE!” years) I can only hope my boys are this willing to snuggle when they’re B’s age.

Some things remain the same also with teen sessions — the most important thing is to schedule for the time of day they are happiest (which is not always inclusive of  “golden hour”) — getting your teen on board is the most important part of the process 🙂

These are a few of my favorites from our time together.  Reach out if you’re ready to capture your family’s magic.
