Park Fall Family Portraits | Somerville, MA
Oh man, weather can be super unpredictable here in New England — two days before this session, we had gotten four inches of snow as an October Surprise. We had originally planned for this family’s session to be in the backyard of their new house, but the remains of the snowstorm were making the yard look a little scraggly (as often happens!) so we pivoted — heading instead to a lovely park nearby. This park had everything you might want — lovely paths, cool sculptures, and a playground! I often get asked what I do about locations with playgrounds — parents are often concerned that their kids will be so distracted by a playground they won’t cooperate for any other photos. As a mom of three HIGHLY distractible (and not so fond of being photographed) children, I totally get this concern. That’s why I often steer clear of locations that require walking past a playground right off the bat — it’s often a recipe for not so cooperative children. BUT, I absolutely LOVE locations where we can end the session at a playground — when the kids are tired of my games, we just set them loose and capture some candids of them playing freely. With these folks, we were racing some rain clouds, but had a lovely time — here are some of my favorites from our time together.
