Before I tell you about the newborn photography packages I offer, I think it’s important for me to say I totally know where you’re coming from.
You’re not sleeping so well --- to say the least.
Life has completely changed and - you know it’s crucially important to capture these fleeting moments and milestones.
You may have not vacuumed since your baby was born... or maybe a few months before that.
You have piles of laundry and random items “decorating” your hallway.
You feel your space isn’t Instagrammable - even though your bundle of joy totally is.
If this is you, I’m so glad you found me.
I’m Mira, a portrait photographer who loves making people like you feel calm, comfortable, and confident during your next photoshoot. I also have infinite patience for other people’s children, so you’re in luck.
Even before pandemics and #masklife, you might have felt funny having a stranger come to your house, but I take all the necessary precautions (and then some) to make sure we have a safe and fun time photographing your beautiful baby.
- Celebrate your new little one with an in-home or outdoor newborn session. Capture all those tiny newborn details, and the love in your newly expanded family.
Baby’s First Year Program
- The first year of a baby’s life is full of so many amazing changes. It’s the highest period of growth a person will ever experience, and it all goes by so quickly. My First Year Program is designed to help capture those fleeting moments and milestones. This program includes three full portrait sessions with the option to add additional sessions for $500 each.
Yes, you can check out my page that shares all the details here. I'm also up-to-date on my flu shot and all other vaccinations.
So that you can see what to expect from a session with me through the images I create and what we can create together. If I can't share images from every single client I photograph (except for those that pay the small privacy fee for not signing a model release), then people can't see the consistency of the product that I deliver. A model release allows me to use the images in my online portfolio, website, and social media.
I value your privacy and can work with you to keep your images private for an additional fee of 25% of the session or event fee. Without this fee, many might not allow me to share the images I create for them, and it is hard to get hired as a photographer without a collection of images.
If you are currently expecting, it is never too early to get in touch to ensure I have availability around then for you. Let me know once your baby arrives so we can settle on an exact session date and time. Newborn sessions generally take place when your baby is 4-14 days old.
Once you book your session, we'll chat (via email, phone, or in-person — your choice) about the specifics of your situation. If you decide on reserving a date, we will choose a time, and I will put it on my calendar after I receive your session fee and contract.
Please let me know if you're interested in a complimentary styling service so I can send you a personalized link when you book your session. I recommend wearing the same general color family with one or fewer patterns for parents and older siblings. Soft neutrals are lovely if those are an option. Black and stark white are good to avoid, if possible. You can send me your outfits by taking a picture and sending them from your phone, and I am happy to give you a consult. The most important thing is comfort and that you feel like you look good in the clothes you choose!
To prepare your baby for his or her newborn portrait, turn up the heat to around 85 degrees, so your baby is comfortable as we have him or her in a diaper and light wraps. If possible, please keep baby awake one to two hours before the session's start and feed baby immediately prior to my arrival. If baby is full and sleepy, the sessions run more smoothly, and baby will be happier. Please either have baby just in a diaper or in a loose outfit that does not require going over the baby's head. A neutral/white onesie or sleeper can also be helpful for the less posed images.
Please talk to older siblings ahead of time about what's going to happen, and, if you're comfortable with it, set up a reward for cooperation (it could be something immediate, like a small pile of m&ms for cheerful cooperation, or for an older child, a slightly bigger treat to be given at the end like a cookie or a small toy). Electronics are not recommended to keep kids happy during the session — I find it's often hard to pull their attention away from the screen. For a small child, it can be helpful to let me know ahead of time what sorts of things they like (really into Elmo? Dinosaurs?) and what types of tricks YOU find work well for them — you know your child best! In the middle of the session, it's helpful if the adults can keep the pose I've given so that when that perfect moment happens for the kids, everyone else is ready! It also helps if the adults in the room can remain relaxed.
I am always happy to try clients' ideas for any session, even though my style is more "lifestyle" newborn portraiture rather than highly posed "studio" shots. Babies are often happier and more comfortable this way, and we create images that more closely will mirror what you see as a parent. We have various wraps — please let me know if there are particular colors you are excited about as we prepare for your newborn session. I will bring a basket or two, and we can also use your furniture (sofa, bed, nursery) to create your images. Mira Whiting Photography would be happy to work with sentimental items that are important to you. As a knitter, I have a particular soft spot for handmade baby items (knit, crocheted, quilted — I love them all!). As a historian, I love being able to incorporate things that may have been in your family that are significant (maybe your own baby blanket or the hat you came home from the hospital wearing, for instance).
All newborn sessions occur at your home, or if weather permits, outdoors within a 30-minute radius of Arlington, MA. Travel is included in your session fee. If you're farther away, I am happy to travel to you for $2 per mile outside of my regular zone.
After your session, I will carefully go through all the images and bring out the very best. Within two days, I will post a sneak peek on my Facebook page where you'll be able to share some of the images immediately with your friends and family. I recommend tagging yourself in the image to reach more of your friends' and family's newsfeeds. The full editing process will take about 2 weeks for portrait sessions and 3 weeks for events. If you need rush pricing, please let me know. You will receive an online gallery with full-resolution images you will be able to download to your computer or mobile devices.
Prints from my professional lab are available through your online gallery.
