It’s hard to believe it’s been a whole year since baby M was born and I was photographing her newborn session. And at the same time, it’s been a year where there have been zillions of memes about months or even days feeling like whole decades. When I first met M and her parents, life was fairly normal. The next time I saw them was for the Front Porch Project as we all reeled from a new pandemic — her 6 month session happened as we were all adjusting to what it meant to leave our houses again. This session, this celebration of M’s first birthday, was a lovely antidote to the stress and chaos of earlier in the year. In a beautiful natural spot, with a cheery toddler and her moose named Broose, we had so much fun. A year ago, she was an adorable little lump, and now she’s a walking child with Opinions of her own, and a sense of humor (check out some of those grins below!).
And this is what I love most about the First Year Program I offer for families — getting to watch them grow, and grow with them a little. And this year especially, be a steady presence — a little bit of normal in a world otherwise turned upside down.
