So many milestones don’t stop for anything, including a world-wide pandemic.  It’s been incredibly inspiring to me to see how families are adapting age-old traditions for world locked down to protect the community from COVID.   It’s been my pleasure to get to capture a whole bunch of COVID-friendly celebrations and even a few weddings.

This family reached out to see if I could capture some of their family’s magic as they celebrated their youngest child becoming bat mitzvah.  Such a major milestone.  I know for my own children, I’ve been looking forward to big family celebrations when they reach this milestone.  I loved hearing all about how this family was doing their best to make the day as special as possible, even if it may not be exactly what they had originally envisioned.  With four out of five of their immediate family there in person, and zoom set up for farther-flung loved ones (including the bat mitzvah girl’s big brother) to join in, I know they were doing a fantastic job making it a good day.

Working around the time constraints of the day (even a scaled-down bat mitzvah celebration includes some time constraints, including getting hair done — how AMAZING is this girl’s hair??  I was totally not that cool at 13!).  The family is also in the middle of some backyard renovations, so we had a bit of a limited amount of space.  But we found gorgeous light and got to use the swing set as well — I love being able to show adolescence as that bridge time between childhood and adulthood.  Here are a few of my favorites.
